Whether you install a new printer or already have multiple printers installed on your network, you have the option to choose which printer you want to use as your default printer so that Windows and your applications know where to print.
If you are installing a new printer, follow the instructions on your CD. During installation, the Add Printer Wizard is displayed and you will be given the option to install your new printer as the default printer. Super mario rpg armageddon download 6.1.
Step By Step
1. When the Add Printer Wizard / Default Printer window is displayed, place a check mark in the Yes box, click Next, and continue to follow the instructions.
2. In Windows XP click Start, then select Printers and Faxes.
In Windows Vista click Start, click Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, click Printers.
In Windows 7 click Start, click Devices and Printers.
Right-click the printer you wish to use as your default printer and select 'Set as default printer.' Right-click the printer icon again to verify that the correct printer is now set as the default. When the menu opens, a check mark should appear next to 'Set as Default.'
3. If a right-click menu doesn't display the 'Set as default printer' option, double-click the printer icon to display the Print Queue. Click on Printer and select 'Set as default printer' from the menu. A check mark next to the menu item or printer icon indicates that the printer is now set as the default printer. You can change your default printer setting at any time.

4. Even after you have set a printer as your default, you can still print from other printers on your system or network. To print to a different (secondary) printer, click on the File menu and select Print. The print dialog box displays all installed printers. Select the printer you wish to use and click OK to close the dialog box.
I have a laser printer that is capable of both color and duplex output and am printing to it from Windows XP. Every time something is printed the printer properties default to color, single side output. Is there a way to change the defaults to mono and duplex output so they don't have to be manually set for every print job?
I've looked throughout the 'xxxx Printer Properties' pages an have not found a way to save the changes or set them as the new defaults.

XP? How to connect external speakers to dell laptop. You need to access printer properties in Printers and Faxes, right click on the printer and select properties, a window will open, usually there is a 'preferences' button, click that to set your preferences permanently.
W7, go to Devices and Printers, right click on the printer icon and select printing preferences.

I'm replacing our Windows 2003 print server with one running on Windows 2008 R2. I have connected and configured all of our printers and can successfully print to them from the server itself. All of the printers are shared and user's have permission to print on all of them.
Whenever one of our clients attempts to connect through the shares they receive the following error message:
Operation could not be completed (error 0x0000709). Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network.
No messages are generated on the client Event Log nor is anything generated on the server.
I have reinstalled the drivers as suggested by a few forum posts I came across and it didn't solve the issue. There are twelve different printer drivers and they are all experiencing this issue so I believe it is unrelated to the driver.
I have disabled UAC on both the client and server since that has caused so many headaches before, but it too did not solve this problem. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this?

But what does this user have to say for themselves? Have you actually spoken to them?
Does this unnamed computer have internet access? It may not have been them at all. This may be attributable to some form of Malware. Call me naturally suspicious but although your membership reads 2 years - this is your FIRST EVER POST, which doesn't auger too well to 'educating' anyone in the wiles of a computer registry.

1. When I first signed up to this site I picked random selections just so I can sign up and see the answer to one of the solutions provided. Since then, I haven't actually updated my job role. I am a network administrator for a small law firm.
2. They do have internet access, but I've never heard of malware modifying the printer permissions, malware is usually associated with pop-ups and internet explorer issues. I did speak with the person and they deny everything. 3. Just because this is my first post doesn't mean I don't know anything about this field. But thanks for asking.

Well - that's ME told. However ..
If you want to be taken seriously, perhaps you could allocate a few moments out of your evidently hectic life as 'a network administrator for a small law firm' to edit your TechRepublic Job Role, so's I (and everyone else!) don't assume that you work in HR - as your continuing Profile still proclaims.
I mean, if you can't be bothered to present a clear technically proficient image of yourself, I can hardly be held legally accountable for misinterpretation, can I ?

have you checked
any other printers or programs to see if the security tab still exists on those? Is printer and file sharing turned on? did you try restoring a previous version of the registry? I have learned to make images of hard drives after doing a setup so if things happen I can just reimage the hard drive and be up and running in less than an hour.

re:
I have checked, and I can access the security tab on other printers on the same machine, but not the one giving me the problem. I get the following error message: Printer properties cannot be displayed. Access is denied. Printer file sharing is turned on. It would be a good idea to restore the registry to a previous state, but I do not have a recent version of it for this machine.

registry
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPrintPrinters in the registry and copy the security data from a working printer to the printer that you cannot access. Then net stop and start the spooler service.
